Bachelor #7 and His Dirty Little Secret

Why am I incapable of liking a normal decent guy who actually seems to like me? I had met Bachelor #7 once before, but more of in a group setting. He seemed impressed by me and was pretty upfront in telling me that he liked my company and wanted to go out with me again. However, I didn't really feel a mutual attraction from the start. We exchanged a few e-mails and then he asked me out. So, I decided to take him up on the offer because he did seem like an interesting guy and I figured I owed him a second chance. We ended up meeting at a German restaurant in Lincoln Square and, while the company was good, I have to say that there just wasn't any spark and the spark is important to me. Here are a few things I had an issue with:

  • When I told him I majored in Journalism he proceed to talk about he hated journalists.
  • He made a comment about how he didn't like the uppity college educated people who lived in Lincoln Park.
  • He has a 6 year old daughter (a fact which he failed to mention until midway through the date)

Now this last one is pretty much a deal breaker for me and I also don't understand why he wouldn't have mentioned this in any of the multiple conversations we've had. It's not like saying you have dog or some hamsters - this is a human being who is very much part of your life. Also, in all honesty, I have not intention of making a child any part of my life.

While this is certainly someone I wouldn't mind grabbing a beer with every now and then I know that I am just not into him. So, now I'm stuck with the daunting task of sending him an e-mail and telling him how I feel. Unlike some men I've dated, I refuse to just leave him hanging. I feel I at least owe him a reason and the option to stay friends if he would like.

Bachelor # 6: The tattooed writer who doesn't drink

Once again I have let life get in the way of keeping up with my blog. I won't bore you with all the details of the past few weeks. Let's just skip to the good parts. I have a 'new' Bachelor #6. I met this one on OkCupid and after a few brief and flirtatious e-mails and IMs we agreed to meet. From his pictures I could tell he was a very attractive tattooed hipster and most likely out of my league. We decided to meet at Duke of Perth, my stand by first date location.

As soon as he walked in to the restaurant the college girl in me developed a huge crush. He was covered in tattoos and sort of had a Pete Wentz thing going. He was wearing the traditional hipster summer wardrobe of a black t-shirt and cut off jean shorts. And he had a pierced nose. Yep, I had surly lucked out -what could a guy like that possibly want with someone like me? Shouldn't he be out dating adorable hipster girls somewhere in Logan Square?

So he sits down and orders a Ginger Ale...that's right, he doesn't drink. However, I am totally willing to look past that in his case. I start the conversation with asking him what he does and he tells me he used to be a hairdresser, but quit that to became a writer. At this point I'm pretty sure I'm on a date with a gay man. I'm just getting that vibe from his hairdressing background to his verbal cues. I will later be proven wrong by this, but for the time I'm a little discombobulated.

He tells me all about how he started his own publishing company and has 6 books out that started from his blog. He Has also traveled the world to speak about his experiences at universities. So, this guy is actually a serious writer and that English major in me is developing more of a crush every minute. What are the chances that I meet an interesting tattooed writer?

We continue to have a fantastic conversations about life, dating, douche bags like Tucker Max - this date is going really well. We exchange dating stories (which he clearly has more of). We talk about our sense of adventure and desire to meet new people. By the end I didn't know if I wanted to make him my BFF or take him home and tie him to my bed.

I ended up choosing the later. So, we've hooked up a few times since and chat a few times a week. He has refreshingly liberal views on sex and we talk very openly about it. His newest book is about male sexuality and his experiences with women, but it is by no means another 'I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell'. Is this guy long term? Probably not, but I'm certainly having fun with him for now.

Mad Girl Refuses to Date an Ass

So Bachelor #6 actually never materialized and that position is still open. This was a guy I met on FetLife. I actually sought him out because he had tattoos, liked Tarantino and whiskey. It seemed like a good idea at the time. We exchanged a few e-mails and some pics and I felt pretty good about where this was going. He suggested we meet and we agreed to meet at the L &L (quite possible the only dive bar in Lakeview). He texted me this afternoon to confirm our date and I replied that I would be there. Well, about 45 minutes later I get this text:

Damit. 2 of my friends just showed up to take me somewhere and won't tell me where. Bastards. Raincheck? What does the rest of your week look like? I'm open any day but Wednesday. This sucks!! I was looking forward to this all weekend! :(

Seriously? Um, if my friends showed up two hours before I had a date planned I would most certainly turn them down. What sort of man lets his friends cock block him? I really don't have time for this. So, I posted my story on Facebook and decided that I would go with the advice of the first friend who replied. Of course, the advice was to ditch him. I texted him back with a simple 'my week is booked' and he replies: Dang. Can I be in touch later this week, make figure something out for next week?

Not quite sure I understand this one, but I really don't think this bodes well for any guy I want to get involved with. So, in honor of the date that never was I present you with a classic cocktail...

The Moscow Mule

2oz vodka
juice of have a lime
ginger beer

Juice lime into glass and fill with ice. Add vodka. Top with ginger beer.

Mad Girl Mixes

I'm really not the social butterfly that some of my friends assume I am. That is why I was a little nervous about attending a munch with some of the people I've met on FetLife. A munch is just a low key mixer for new and established members of the community. I decided to attend one hosted by TNG (http://www.tngc.org/) which is geared towards Chicagoans under the age of 35. I knew that Bachelor #4 was going to be there at some point, but the idea of walking into a room of total strangers frightened me a bit.

However, I sucked it up and decided that I was going to give this whole thing a shot. I made sure to look my best and put on a little black dress and pulled my hair up in classic pin-up girl style. I then did some pin-up style make up with bright red lips and was ready to go. I was looking and feeling pretty good and who do I happen to run in to at the bus stop? Bachelor #3! It was one of those priceless moments where the universe decides to throw a girl a bone. I stopped him dead in his tracks as he approached. He gave me a hug and told me how good I looked. It was fantastic to tell him that I was meeting someone for dinner (a slight lie). So, after getting a much needed confidence boost it was on to the munch. The munch took place at a sushi bar in Logan Square so it was a bit of a voyage to get there. It was slightly awkward at first, but people were quick to make friends with the new girl. There were also a few other newbies so we got to be new and awkward together.

I got the chance to meet a few of the friends I've met on FetLife and think I might have two potential Bachelors lined up. The first one is Brazilian and slightly nerdy looking, but in that oh so sexy Brazilian way. The irony is that had just gotten a Brazilian bikini wax that day...I say it's fate. The other guy wasn't quite what I was expecting. He's a blue collar Italian guy from Chicago. We share a love of good food and drink (he makes his own lemoncello and is a pretty good cook) and I think he's someone I'd love to spend some more time with, but I'm just not feeling any chemistry right off the bat. I could tell he liked me though and he sent me a very nice e-mail telling me how much he enjoyed my personality and that the pictures I sent him did not do me justice. We have plans to meet for a drink next week. I just hope some sort of spark shows up because I don't like the idea of him liking me more than I like him.

My second 'mix' comes in the form of a cocktail recipe. This is my take on the strawberry daiquiri:

Strawberry-Ginger Daiquiri

Muddle 2 sliced strawberries, a teaspoon of sugar, juice of half a lime, 1.5 oz of white rum and .5 oz of ginger liquor (I used one from Koval distillery). Add ice shake and strain into a glass rimmed with sugar and ginger powder.

Mad Girl and the Seach for Motivation

I am really one very unmotivated person. Today has been my first real day off in about 2 weeks. Every other day off I've had plans that have taken me away from my housework. So today I intended to catch up on 2 weeks worth of laundry and make some sense of the mess that my apartment has become. I knew I was going to let myself catch up on some sleep and figured I'd wake up around 9. I actually woke up at 10:30. The last time I slept this late I was out boozing all night.

After waking up I spent about a half an hour checking e-mail and responding to may many potential suitors. I finally found the motivation to get in the shower. My original plan was to do a few loads of laundry and then work on cleaning my apartment. Turns out I didn't get enough change to do laundry and am certainly not going out to buy a roll of quarters -that would require me putting on clothes. So, I decided to make a cocktail and do some straightening I know I should be buckling down and deep cleaning and organizing my apartment, but I am so unmotivated right now.

What is wrong with me? Don't real responsible adults keep their places clean? I'm sure that most of the people I know don't hide their dirty dishes in the oven when company comes over. (As a side note -visitors may not want to open any of my closets either). The only time I feel slightly motivated to clean is when I have dates over. Maybe I just need to start inviting more men back to my apartment.
